Responsible Care member companies enhance the existing management systems through implementing a set of Responsible Care guidelines. The Responsible Care implementation process also encourages teamwork which involve personnel from the environmental, health & safety, community relations, distribution, emergency response, operations, regulatory compliance and purchasing etc coming together and work towards having a one complete, comprehensive management system.

This voluntary commitment codified industry’s efforts to reduce the risks presented by facilities and products to employees, customers, the public and the environment. Companies are committed to working transparently with governments, IGOs, the business community and the public to achieve a better and more sustainable future.

Responsible Care commits chemical companies to be open and transparent with stakeholders at the local, national and international level. It encourages dialogue and cooperation, and has helped industry work much more closely with local communities, governments, trades unions, international organizations, environmental groups and others to understand and address their concerns. Responsible Care also promotes co-operation with governments and organizations in the development and implementation of effective regulations and standards, and helps companies to meet or exceed these requirements.

Responsible Care member companies which implemented the Responsible Care management practices will have facilities that represent enhanced environmental, health, safety, security, product stewardship and value chain performance, combined with robust community outreach – a combination not provided by ISO certification. This competitive advantage will become even clearer as the Responsible Care ethic is spread along the value chain and government entities and stakeholders learn how Responsible Care promotes continuous performance improvements.
