The Singapore Chemical Industry Council will be organising the SCIC Annual Dinner on 22 March 2012 and the Annual SCIC Responsible Care 2011 Awards Presentation will con-currently be held on this special occasion. This yearly event is an occasion for SCIC to express our appreciation to all our members as well as a good opportunity for members to network.

14th Asia Pacific Confederation of Chemical Engineering (APCChE) Congress

The Asia Pacific Confederation of Chemical Engineering (APCChE) comprises non-profit societies associations and institutions working in the field of Chemical Engineering in the Asia Pacific region. The 14th APCChE  will be held  in Singapore from February 21 – 24 2012.

 

A special feature of the 14th APCChE will be participation of the Industry to supplement the scientific and technical program with a full symposium on Sustainability in Practice and Process Safety Management. Both are especially critical areas for the chemical industry and the symposium will be led by renown experts in these fields.

Globally Harmonised System (GHS) Chemical Users Course

As part of our continued capacity building efforts in preparing the industry for GHS implementation, we are pleased to confirm another session of the course in 2012 with the details as follows:

The GHS Chemical Users Course would be awarded a total of 7 SDU points under the Continuing Professional Development (CPD) programme for Registered Workplace Safety& Health Officers.


The GHS Chemical Users Course would be awarded a total of 5 CPD points under the FSM CPD program.


v Fee is inclusive of course material, coffee breaks, lunch and a Guidebook on the Globally Harmonised System of Classification and Labelling of Chemicals published by SCIC.

Standards Development Organisation (SDO) at SCIC

SPRING Singapore, the National Standards Body, has appointed SCIC to manage the Chemical Standards Committee (CSC) with effect from April 2011 at the start of the new Standards Council 3 year term.


The Standards Development Organisation (SDO) at SCIC was set up in May 2011 to administer SPRING Singapore’s standardisation programme for the chemical and chemical-related industry under the Singapore Standards Council. The key functions of the SDO@SCIC will be standards development and adoption.


With SPRING Singapore’s support, SDO@SCIC has successfully managed the first CSC meeting on 8 July 2011 following four Technical Committee meetings in the month of July 2011.

SCIC Outreach Programmes For Institution of Learnings

The Chemical Industry Education  Outreach Programme was launched in 1998 to help students and the public gain insight into Singapore's secondary industry.


The objectives of the outreach programmes are


- To enhance students / teachers / public awareness and knowledge of chemicals
- To enhance students / teachers / public understanding on chemical safety
- To illustrate the usage of chemicals in our daily lives & to showcase...
- To share with students on the Career Prospects in the industry


Outreach programmes includes:


1. Awarness talk on "Jobs and Career Progression Prospects in the SIngapore Chemical Industry" conducted at the individual schools.


2. Presentations by SCIC and Industry Ambassadors on "Responsible Care & World of Chemicals” conducted at the individual schools.


3. Visit to Jurong Island, the hub of the Chemical Industry in Singapore
